The Champlain College Saint-Lambert "Millennial Certificates Program" (https://champlainsaintlambert.ca/millennium-certificates/) was launched in Fall 2022.
This popular co-curricular program is now at full capacity, becoming a stable part of the college campus and providing various benefits to learners, faculty mentors and the campus as a whole.
With the addition of new certificate themes, the use of an experiential learning platform to track student portfolios, and the implementation of badges to recognize students' achievements, the program serves as a powerful example of the evolution of higher education learning pathways.
This program lets students choose from among multiple themes and nurtures students’ interests in learning about and improving the world (and the college) in a flexible manner, operating outside and alongside their college coursework. Students’ independent learning and experiential activities can also be connected to in-class curricula, allowing learners to make connections between courses and their certificate theme and develop increasingly valuable competencies in critical thinking, leadership, and creativity.
This presentation will explain the structure of the MCP, the mechanics by which students are awarded certificates and the way participating students and faculty mentors are coordinated. Highlights from alumni and active student experiences will give attendees a concrete sense of the program and illustrate why it is worth considering launching a certificate program in their own institution.
