(The webinar is offered with simultaneous interpretation in English.)
Many students arriving at postsecondary institutions face transitional challenges. The first year of study is not only about acquiring the disciplinary competencies of the program; it also involves adapting to teaching and learning practices that may be very different from what they have experienced before. This challenge becomes even more complex when these individuals come from educational systems requiring academic benchmarks, expectations and standards to be completely relearned.
To support these transitions, a team of teachers is currently developing a set of pedagogical tools that can be transferred to different levels of education. These resources—accessible even before students arrive at the institutions—include immersion in an interactive virtual world, short video clips, and a guide designed to facilitate understanding of the Quebec college context.
This webinar will first present the context of the project, then paint a picture of the realities experienced by students from various educational systems. It will then propose the tools designed by the team to better support these transitions. Finally, a discussion period will allow participants to comment on the proposed solutions and share their own experiences.
