The AQPC's Major Lectures are opportunities to meet and exchange with public figures who work in the periphery of the collegiate framework as such. They seek to highlight certain links that exist between college life and broader societal issues.
These one-off meetings are generally held twice a year, at the beginning of the fall and winter sessions. They are opportunities to explore avenues that are somewhat marginal to college pedagogy and to enrich one's pedagogical reflections in turn.
Description
Stress does not always result from an external threat, and the way we think can cause our bodies to generate a stress response.
In this lecture, Dr. Marie-France Marin will explore how our thought patterns can fuel our stress. She will highlight the harmful effects of ruminating on past events and the anxiety caused by worrying about the future.
Furthermore, our perception of stress greatly influences its impact. Viewing stress as a challenge to be overcome rather than an insurmountable threat can transform our response to it. She will reveal concrete methods for countering these internal sources of stress and improving the daily management of stress (and unpleasant emotions!).
