It's clear that some students struggle with the Philosophy and Rationality course. These difficulties are even more pronounced among male students. To support these students, Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu launched a pedagogical project in 2023 targeting three technical programs with predominantly male student populations: Computer Science Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Electrical Engineering Technology: Programmable Electronics.
The project has two objectives: first, to demonstrate the relevance of philosophy in the context of these students' technical programs; and second, to implement a three-tiered intervention model to provide targeted support and increase success rates in philosophy.
Thanks to the collaboration of teachers from the technical programs, pedagogical counselors, and the academic administration, as well as the support of the Department of Philosophy, the project is showing encouraging results regarding the motivation and success of both male and female students.
