Teaching Philosophical Literacy

The aim of this CoP is to support the professional development of philosophy teachers who wish to place the philosophical literacy of their students at the centre of their teaching. This approach is based on two axioms: we cannot assume that students already possess this skill when they enter CEGEP; developing it also means cultivating a philosophical mindset. Philosophical literacy is central to learning to philosophize, yet teachers have very few resources to integrate this topic into their practice.

This CoP is part of the PAREA project "La lecture comme pratique authentique de la philosophie" (Reading as an Authentic Philosophical Practice). It provides a forum for exchange between the team of researcher-practitioners and those who teach philosophy in the college network. It is also open to interested pedagogical counsellors.

The purpose of the community is to disseminate the knowledge and experience generated by the ongoing collaborative research, while allowing this research to be enriched by the expertise and feedback of its members.

Sharing is intended to be free and compatible with the full range of pedagogical ambitions: whether you want to fine-tune your practice, try out new activities, or completely reinvent your way of teaching, there is a place for you in this CoP.
