Every year, approximately 2,000 youth in the care of the Department of Youth Protection leave care. At just 18 years old, they are left to fend for themselves, with no clear pathway to accessing support for housing, healthcare, or education. In this session, we will share the results of a research project completed in December 2024. This project led to 16 concrete recommendations for CEGEPs to better support the admission, retention and success of these young people in higher education programs in Quebec. We will also briefly discuss how John Abbott College is implementing these recommendations.
