Artistic Collaboration and Teaching in Cuba... Quite an Experience !
This article summarizes the author’s teaching experience in Cuba, beginning with a review of the artistic collaboration between the Cuban Academia El Alba d'Holguin and Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne, in Montréal, which revolved around the creation of students works based on common themes in both teaching establishments, followed by an exhibition thereof in their respective countries. She outlines the context of the artistic training offered in the Cuban establishment where she taught, draws a parallel between Cuban and Quebec students and provides an overview of the pedagogical material that she used on site. The author also underlines the many advantages she gained from her trip, notably the opportunity to attend a number of specialized courses, and describes the valuable contribution resulting from the internationalization of the Arts and letters program. The author underscores the fact that the artistic collaboration between the two establishments is a rich human adventure bringing about a total transformation of both students and teachers, insofar as opening up to others and to the world constitutes a source of motivation, self-examination and artistic research.
