The authors of this article present the results of their study on the phenomenon of college student migration to establishments that are members of the ACPQ (Association des colleges privés du Québec). They define the concept of migrant student, assess the scope of the phenomenon and describe, from the point of view of actual interveners working in these establishments, what student migration represents as well as welcoming and integration practices designed for migrant students. In this article, they insist particularly on the purpose of the study which consisted of making recommendations to the establishments in the private college network (recommendations that can also apply to public CEGEPs) concerning welcoming practices to implement for migrant students. To this effect, they recommend early intervention, which includes identifying migrant students and contacting them to prepare them before they begin college; they also propose ways to facilitate the welcome and integration of migrant students calling on the implementation of special tools and services (webpage, workshops, etc.); and they warn us against a certain infantilization of migrant students, since this type of migration can prove beneficial to youth in spite of adaptation difficulties.
