The authors of this article present the results of their research on the Expression and Communications Techniques (ECT) module at their university, where students whose mother tongue is Arabic, learn to develop their linguistic, behavioural and communication competencies in French. According to the authors, training in a foreign language makes it possible to develop a complementarity between mastering scientific and linguistic knowledge, since both are inseparable in light of the recent evolution of technology and computer science. The authors identify a few characteristics of a given student population’s ability to write in French, and offer a preliminary diagnosis of this ability so they can evaluate the learning in order to make a diagnostic evaluation. Consequently, once their ECT training was completed, students were questioned as to their satisfaction on various levels: motivation, expectations and the links between courses in the ECT module and other scientific courses. Believing that students must be actively involved in their education, the authors insist on the need for reinforcing the harmonization between ECT courses and other scientific courses.
