In charge of revising L’Art de conjuguer (the art of conjugating)

It goes without saying that integrating new spelling and changes made by the MELS with regard to grammatical analysis has influenced teaching practices. In this article, the author uses numerous examples to provide clarification on spelling modifications. She goes on to propose an array of useful tools in terms of software, sites, and reference works. She strongly recommends the 2006 edition of "Bescherelle" L’Art de conjuguer that contains several changes including the integration of the new spelling. The author offers examples to explain the modifications – particularly as concerns new forms and tables, an approach based on syntax rather than semantics – and she underlines the fact that certain changes are in agreement with MELS programs: In the French language, the conditional tense has become indicative, with a passive form rather than a passive voice, etc. According to the author, this latest edition of the Bescherelle L’Art de conjuguer is more useful and in keeping with current teaching practices. To conclude, the author invites us to learn more on the subject and suggests several ways to accomplish this.
