2010-2011 Programming

The AQPC offers ongoing training activities in the form of ‘turnkey’ pedagogical days. Associate college members are invited to organize one of the proposed activities at their location.

The purpose of these activities is to promote ongoing animation in the pedagogical life of our colleges.

Our programming for 2010-2011 comprises four (4) activities, two of which are being offered in collaboration with the Carrefour de la réussite au collégial and Performa.

Administrative modalities:

Interested colleges can order these activities by contacting the AQPC.
Activities are offered at a set price:

  • $350 for an activity lasting three (3) hours or less or
  • $600 for an activity lasting four (4) hours or more.

The college only pays one of the two amounts given above (plus taxes).

Prior to the activity, the AQPC will send the participating college a list of required materials and the suggested layout for the hall.

After the activity has taken place, the AQPC will forward an invoice for the above indicated amount. An evaluation report will also be requested.

The AQPC will assume the retainer fees as well as the transportation and accommodation expenses for the resource persons.

Please feel free to contact Jean-Yves TREMBLAY, coordinator, to obtain additional information or to reserve a date for holding an activity.

  • Mr. Normand Bourgeois, educational advisor, Cégep Champlain –
  • St. Lawrence.

New resource persons could be added to the activity.

SUMMARY:

In order for students to be successful, they must be actively involved in their learning and this engagement is set in motion in the classroom itself and nowhere else. Teachers are constantly asking themselves what are the best strategies for generating and sustaining their students’ commitment and thereby optimizing their learning.

This activity provides an opportunity to reflect on strategies that are likely to foster commitment and to propose tools that will act on the essential aspects of this commitment. Throughout the activity, participants are given the chance to experiment with actual techniques that promote an active commitment to learning. In short, the purpose is to provide teachers with the tools needed to effectively support students in their learning. A large part of this activity has to do with exchanges and reflection.

Although it is designed mainly for new teaching personnel as well as teachers seeking to innovate, this activity may also be of interest to professionals and managers involved in their institution’s overall plan for success.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES:

  • Define what the challenge “success, it all starts in class” means in the context of the constant changes taking place in colleges today and current research on student commitment.
  • Identify intervention strategies that are compatible with the teacher’s role.
  • Experiment with strategies and techniques that promote student commitment and maximize learning.
  • Exchange with colleagues on intervention strategies to use in class.

CONTENT:

The contents will be covered using presentations and various situation scenarios as well as by exploring and exchanging in subgroups.

  • One contextual element that is currently bringing teaching practices into question is the changing characteristics of student populations. Other themes include:
  • Student commitment and motivation for their education.
  • Learning strategies to explore.
  • Renewed teaching strategies.

FORMAT: The activity lasts from 3 to 5 hours.

This activity is offered in French and in English. Once the date for the activity is set with an institution, that college’s resource person works with the animators to define the form, the schedule and the duration of the activity as well as any required adaptations to the content based on that establishment’s particular needs.

The maximum number of participants for an activity is seventy (70).

TITLE: Enseigner les mathématiques... autrement !
Activity offered in collaboration with the Carrefour de la réussite au collégial, PERFORMA and the AQPC.
Offered only in French. See the French section of the site.
