Like all new teachers, Daniel Mongelard is faced with many challenges, including ensuring his professional integration, juggling several different courses at the same (while appropriating them), and overcoming the pedagogical challenge of finding the ideal formula that will enable his students to achieve the learning prescribed for the Aménagement des stations course which is part of the Assainissement de l’eau program, a course given exclusively at Cégep Saint-Laurent. In the interview, the novice teacher describes this program and provides an overview of the journey that led him to use a Problem Based Learning (PLB) approach to teaching. He shares his experience of PLB, providing details on the context that led to using this strategy, his research to learn more about the method, and the results from his reading up on the subject. He also explains how he managed to actually integrate this pedagogical method into his practice, describes the pitfalls he encountered along the way and the solutions he found to overcome them.
