AUTHORS:

  • Lynn Lapostolle, director general of the ARC
  • Sébastien Piché, history teacher, Cégep régional de Lanaudière à l'Assomption

Based on a project directed by the Association pour la recherche au collégial (ARC) and dealing with the history of research conducted at this level of education, the authors shed light on some stunning results. Using charts, diagrams and tables to illustrate the subject, they draw a parallel between the credits awarded for college research and the scientific publications of college researchers, while highlighting the collaboration networks between higher learning establishments, both Francophone and Anglophone. From this perspective three observations emerge: 1) the credits awarded for research are not the only determining factor for the number of publications; 2) most educational research projects are carried out individually, while the number of collaborations varies considerably according to the field of research; and 3) researchers in English colleges publish more than their French counterparts. In addition, the authors insist on the importance of making researchers aware of available resources, of disseminating their results and increasing their impact by inviting researchers to collaborate more closely with relevant organizations.
