From recognizing needs to organizing services

This article deals with the problems facing students with learning disabilities when it comes to accessing post-secondary education. This clientele which is presently ‘emerging’ in Quebec, has been the subject of many empirical studies aimed at determining which practices should be favoured. Currently, Quebec students with learning disabilities can take advantage of tutoring and other accommodations designed to help them obtain their diploma – and this is true for both college and university. Recognizing these students’ learning disabilities and organizing the appropriate services are challenges that post-secondary teaching establishments will be facing in the decades ahead. To conclude, the authors propose accommodation strategies that can help students with learning disabilities to succeed.
