Social worker practicing autonomously
In regard to the integration and success of boys in CEGEP, this article analyzes the factors that have influenced the development of mutual aid in support groups. The author begins by presenting an overview of integration and its academic, social, institutional and vocational dimensions. He then determines which interventions facilitate integration into higher education, one of the most important learning aspects for the learner being the quality of relationships with his peers and teacher, from whence the importance of the social support group. After reviewing the research on support groups for students in higher education, the author presents his research: object of the study, the support group on which the experiment was conducted and its context, the population reached by support groups, the objectives of the support group under experimentation, the modalities and content of meetings, as well as the methodology for evaluating the intervention (sample studied, measurement tools, data analysis and limitations of the analysis). As regards results and discussion, the author examines the groups’ evolution as well as the factors influencing them and reaffirms the validity and efficiency of support groups for CEGEP students.
